A collection of radio profiles of leading figures from Irish media, revealing the personal and professional motivations behind those who bring news and entertainment to the public.
Under the Spotlight, by Newstalk 106's Media Matters programme presenter Roger Greene, is a collection of 17 radio profiles of leading figures from Irish media which reveal the personal and professional motivations behind the people who bring news and entertainment to the public.
Newstalk 106 began broadcasting in 2002, and Media Matters became one of its most popular programmes, providing an incisive mix of media analysis and commentary. The Under the Spotlight slot, from which the interviews in this book are taken, quickly established its place at the centre of the programme.
The people interviewed in the book are:
Conor Brady, Frank Connolly, Eamon Delaney, Eamon Dunphy. Michael Dwyer, Carol Flynn, Norn Hegarty, Fergal Keane, Gene Kerrigan, Damien Kiberd, Lara Marlowe, Justine McCarthy, Caroline Morahan, Joe Mulholland, Kevin Rafter, Denis Tuohy and John Waters.
Each interviewee discusses their childhood and upbringing and reflects on the journey that has brought them to their present position at the top of their profession. They deal with the reasons they chose the media, their career progress and the impact their chosen profession has had on their private lives.
All in all, Under the Spotlight offers readers a rare look at the personal and professional lives of many of Irelands leading journalists.
