Guidance for All? Guidance Provision in Second-Level Schools

Guidance Counsellors deliver a vital service in schools, playing a central role in providing educational and career guidance, alongside increasingly important personal and social support to young people. This is the first comprehensive study of the nature of Guidance Counselling provision in Irish second-level schools and considers the experiences and views of providers and consumers alike.

Among the issues examined are the nature of guidance counselling services for students in second-level schools, the way in which guidance information is delivered to students, the role Guidance Counsellors play within schools, the views of key stakeholders on the level and adequacy of guidance services, the extent to which students are satisfied with the guidance counselling they receive and the impact of the Guidance Enhancement Initiative on guidance services.
